Strollers were certainly designed to make life easier for parents and keep children from tiring out on excursions that require lots of walking, however they shouldn’t be used excessively. Here’s why.

Strollers have weight and height limits
Depending on your child’s size, they might be too big for a stroller, or at least the stroller that you have. You should check and make sure to keep your child safe.

Big kids need walking too
Exercise is important, especially for kids. Americans are far too sedentary as a society and if we encourage the use of strollers even as children get too old and too big for them, we’re not giving them the appropriate activity levels they need.

They also need independence
Being confined to a stroller means there’s less chance for exploration. Your child needs to get out there in the world and see it from more than just the vantage point of the stroller.

If you’re trying to get your kid to stop relying on the stroller so much, offer positive rewards like stickers for them walking with you on smaller jaunts. Don’t attempt to break the stroller cycle while you’re vacationing at Disney World for example, where even children who are used to activity get worn down from all the walking. Take it in stride to help your big kid stop riding in the stroller.
